Mrs Senior’s blog: 27th March 2015

We were inspected for our Active flag on 25th March. We have worked hard towards this. Our Active Flag committee consisting of six pupils form 1st to 6th class reported on our activities. These were Callam Desmond, Alex Fleming, Amber Desigar, Noah Ovington, Eric Schutte and Simone Kenny.

Aoife Munn from Windy Ridge garden centre came in and planted with 1st, 5th and 6thClasses. Some planted vegetables in our raised beds whilst they all planted sweet pea plants to take home with them. They also had a talk on water conservation.

Boys Hockey Team win the Under 12 “B” League Cup

Congratulations to the Boys’ Hockey Team on winning the Cup on Thursday 26th March. They beat Dalkey School Project, 2-0, on the astro pitch in Wesley College. It was an exciting, end to end match, with every one of the boys playing his part. Rathmichael rocked DSP by scoring early in each half and while pressing for a third goal, defended doggedly at the other end. The team were worthy winners of this League Cup having won all their divisional games and their semi-final, to progress to the final.

The team had strong support from parents and school friends on the day and there was wild excitement at the final whistle.

Many thanks to their coach throughout the year, Niall Denham, who unfortunately could not be at the finals due to a prior hockey engagement. The team were coached on the day by Peter “Cookie” Caruth and Lee Cole, so many thanks to them for stepping in and doing a great job.

Thanks also to our Games Co-ordinator, June Lawless, for her organisation through out the year.

Last but not least, many thanks to the team members: Josh Bradshaw, Jack Cullen, Callum Desmond, Kian Gosling, Ben Hickmott, Sam Hickmott, Saul Light, Tim Norwood, Fionn O’Loan, Eliot Perry, Conor Round, Seán Schutte and Adam Walsh. The majority of the team are in 6th Class and will be moving on to secondary school in September – keep up the hockey and we hope to read great things of you in the future!

Principal’s Report: 10th March 2015

5th and 6th Classes went to see Oliver in Rathdown Secondary School on 28th Jan.

3rd Class attended a workshop in Dunlaoghaire County hall on Energy run by the SEAI on 29th Jan.

Sixth Class held a classroom sale in aid of their trip on 10th Feb. All classes attend this. It is a great opportunity for them to learn about change and how to get value for money!

The PTA held a Pancake Day on 13th Feb as we would not be in school for Shrove Tuesday this year. The children brought in €2 and €411 went to Trócaire as this is a project we are looking into for our Global Citizenship Flag.

Delicious and enjoyed by parents, children and indeed staff!

We had our midterm break on 16th Feb for the week. School returned on 23rd Feb.

The Dental Hygienist visited the school on Tues 24th Feb. She spoke with 1st, 3rd,4th and 5thClasses.

Louise Osbourne from Recreate came and did a workshop with 3rd Class using end of line items which they stock as a resource for schools. The class each created pictures from the items she supplied.

Kristine Eikenberg arrived form Indiana for work experience until 1st May. She will get experience in all classrooms. At first she will observe and liaise with teachers as to what she will teach in the classes and then she will teach when timetabled. We have always had a good experience with these American students. She will be inspected whilst she is here.

Students for CICE started their placement on 4th March for a four week period. They are in Jn. Inf, Sn. Inf, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Classes. They also will be inspected whilst they are with us.

The teachers met on Wed 4th Feb for Collaborative planning time. They discussed books and booklists with their colleagues as part of their Croke Park hours. Another similar time is planned for this.

All is well!
