“Old King Cole”
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to make this production such an enjoyable and successful venture. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Rathmichael Church’s 150 years.  It was a lot of work and commitment but everyone who took part really enjoyed themselves.

New Technology
The PTA has kindly purchased five iPads for classroom work. The children are using them for individual and group work and they are proving to be a great success. Additional tablets may be purchased in the future.

Crinken Art Competition
Many thanks to all the pupils who contributed artwork to this competition. Rathmichael won the overall prize for the best art work sent in and the individual winners were Isabelle MacNeaney, Siomha Whelan,  Zoe Whelan, Anahita Aryan, Lauren McCleane, Matthew Beck and Zoe Clinch. Their art will be displayed in the Concourse.

Down Syndrome Ireland
This year we will be holding an Odd Socks Day on Wednesday 18th March to help raise funds for Down Syndrome Ireland.  A note will go out later in the week.

Pancake Day
Thank you to everyone who brought in €2 and had a delicious pancake on 13th February. We raised €412 for Trocaire. This charity was chosen as we are working on Global Citizenship in school to raise awareness of the world around us and what we can do to help others less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you to the PTA Committee and its helpers for making the pancakes.

Active Flag Week
The school is once again participating in an important initiative to get pupils active. We are working towards an Active Flag (not dissimilar to the Green Flag but for physical activities rather than the environment). As part of this, we will be holding an Active Flag Week from 15th to 19th June  inclusive. This will be a fun-filled week of activities, involving parents and pupils and we would encourage everyone to participate. More information will follow. If you feel you can contribute, please call the Office.

Cake Sale
On Thursday 26th March there will be a cake sale in school, to raise funds for the P.T.A.  Last year this event was a great success and raised over €900 for PTA funds. On Wednesday 25th March as a homework item, all pupils will be given plates to fill with cakes, buns and biscuits. Pupils will be able to buy goodies during school so please give your child/children money (in small change denominations) to bring in on the day (teachers will advise appropriate amounts for each class). Also please give them containers to take the food home in. The sale will be open to parents from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. in the Crawford Concourse.  Please support this initiative which will help raise funds to support school activities. Funds raised will be allocated in a number of areas – new footballs, music equipment, additional iPads  and Active Flag initiatives.

End of Spring Term – Games and Swimming
Games will continue right up to the end of term but there will be no games on Friday 27th March and they will recommence on the first day of the new term, Monday 13th April.  A separate Games note will follow towards the end of Term.

Swimming for 2nd and 5th Classes will finish on the last day of this term, 27th March and 4th and 1st Classes will commence on Friday 17th April.  A separate note will go home to 1st and 4th Classes shortly.
As in previous years, we hope to have after school tennis coaching for 6th Class pupils next term, on a day to be confirmed and notes will go out in the next week.

Sports Activities during School Hours
The senior classes are participating in a number of sports activities in school hours. 6th Class play Tag Rugby on Mondays with Vic Ball of Leinster Rugby (5th Class played before the mid-term break), 5th and 6th Classes have Cricket on Thursdays with Caoilfhinn Rowan of Leinster Cricket and 3rd and 4th Classes have Football with Rory O’Hare of DLRCC and FAI (5th and 6th Classes played before the mid-term break).  The Cricket coaching sessions will be used to select a team to play in the Inter-Primary Schools Leprechaun Cup. We have participated in this before and the pupils always enjoy the games.

Football and Hockey Results
The Boys’ Hockey Team has played 6 matches in their division and won them all which is a fantastic achievement. They are now through to the semi-finals of the Primary Schools competition. The Girls’ Team has played three matches, winning two and losing one and has two more to play – this again is a great achievement. Well done to the two teams and to their coach Niall Denham.  The Football Team, in Division 2 of the Inter-Primary League, has drawn its first match and has three more to play. The team is coached by Conor Jennings.

I am delighted to advise you that Naomi Clarkson will be returning to teach music to pupils from 1st to 6th Classes during May. She will be preparing shows with some of the classes and details of these will be given at a later date. Provisional dates are: 3rd Class on 27th May at 6.30 p.m; 5th Class on 24th June at 6.30 pm and 6th Class on 17th June at 6.30 pm.

Principal’s Report: 10th March 2015

5th and 6th Classes went to see Oliver in Rathdown Secondary School on 28th Jan.

3rd Class attended a workshop in Dunlaoghaire County hall on Energy run by the SEAI on 29th Jan.

Sixth Class held a classroom sale in aid of their trip on 10th Feb. All classes attend this. It is a great opportunity for them to learn about change and how to get value for money!

The PTA held a Pancake Day on 13th Feb as we would not be in school for Shrove Tuesday this year. The children brought in €2 and €411 went to Trócaire as this is a project we are looking into for our Global Citizenship Flag.

Delicious and enjoyed by parents, children and indeed staff!

We had our midterm break on 16th Feb for the week. School returned on 23rd Feb.

The Dental Hygienist visited the school on Tues 24th Feb. She spoke with 1st, 3rd,4th and 5thClasses.

Louise Osbourne from Recreate came and did a workshop with 3rd Class using end of line items which they stock as a resource for schools. The class each created pictures from the items she supplied.

Kristine Eikenberg arrived form Indiana for work experience until 1st May. She will get experience in all classrooms. At first she will observe and liaise with teachers as to what she will teach in the classes and then she will teach when timetabled. We have always had a good experience with these American students. She will be inspected whilst she is here.

Students for CICE started their placement on 4th March for a four week period. They are in Jn. Inf, Sn. Inf, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Classes. They also will be inspected whilst they are with us.

The teachers met on Wed 4th Feb for Collaborative planning time. They discussed books and booklists with their colleagues as part of their Croke Park hours. Another similar time is planned for this.

All is well!
