This month’s theme is ‘Fairytales and Fantasy’ and this is what the children got up to:
In the Home Corner the children played in The Three Bears’ Cottage. They took on the roles of the three bears, Goldilocks, the director and the narrator as well as making up additional characters in the story. In our ‘Hallowe’en Week’ the children were in role as witches and wizards creating potions in ‘The Potion Lab’ and casting spells. They adored this activity!
At the Art Table the children created treasure maps during ‘Pirate Week’. They made clay bowls for The Three Bears, Junk Art creations from ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and Hallowe’en silhouettes. They also created ‘Shape Monsters’ which tied in with this week’s maths topic.
At the Sensory Table the children played at the Desert Island with toy pirates. They made playdough models on ‘The Three Bears’ playdough mats. Each group planted beans and cress seeds and learned about what plants need to grow as part of our ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ week, and they created Hallowe’en playdough models on Hallowe’en playdough mats.
In Small World the children created a pirate ship and desert island from Lego. They built the setting of the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and then played out the story with their Lego men.
In the Construction Corner the children built a pirate ship. They also constructed the “truly magnificent broom” from ‘Room on a Broom’ and acted out the story.
