Over the past two months the Senior Infants have been learning about different countries around the world. They learnt about Australia, Italy, England, Scotland, America, Spain and France.
In the Home Corner the children took on a variety of roles in ‘The Pizzeria’, ‘Buckingham Palace’, ‘The American Diner’, ‘The Tapas Restaurant’ and ‘The French Restaurant’.
In the Construction Corner the children built Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Colosseum, a black cab and a red bus, the Loch Ness Monster, Skyscrapers, the Empire State Building and Brooklyn Bridge, a bull fight ring, the Louvre and the L’Arc de Triomphe.
At the Water Table the children played ‘The Great Barrier Reef’, ‘Boats on the Thames’ and ‘Loch Ness’. They played on ‘the beach’ at the Sand Table.
At the Art Table the children made paintings inspired by Aboriginal dot art, clay pizzas, crowns from a variety of materials, pictures of themselves in tartan kilts, The Statue of Liberty from Junk Art. They painted faces inspired by Picasso and their own versions of the Mona Lisa.
In Small World they built Sydney Opera House, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Edinburgh Castle, Central Park, the Sagrada Familia and the Eiffel Tower.
The children really loved learning about different cultures and countries around the world. Many thanks to Lexie’s mum Claire for coming in to tell us about her year in Australia!
