March 2023

This has been a busy month. This time 5th Class helped plant trees in Corke Abbey Valley. They planted 200 trees.

In February, for St Valentine’s Day, we all dressed up in Red. We made a heart on the pitch. Money was donated during the day which went towards to Earthquake victims in Turkey.

6th Class children who are being confirmed in St Anne’s Church went on a retreat with children from St Anne’s school.

Our football and hockey teams have been doing really well. The girl’s hockey team have now reached the Semi-final, which is a great achievement, under their super coach Aoife Harte a teacher in the school.

World Book Day took place on 2nd March. This was a fun day when everyone, including staff, dressed up as their favourite character in a book.  Competitions were run. An author, Gillian Perdue, came in to speak with Junior Infants to 1st Classes. Other classes took part in a webinar with Alan Nolan.

The PTA held a movie night and we had a huge attendance. A very large screen was put on the stage, a classroom was transformed into a cinema and the pitch was used for football. The PTA served popcorn, treats and refreshments throughout the night.  There was a great atmosphere and a sea of popcorn was the only thing left at the ned of the night! Such a lovely family event for the school.

I leave my positon as Principal at the end of term and Naomi Rousseau will be in situ from 2nd May. Katie Fox will be acting up as Principal in the interim. May I take this opportunity to say thank you to the community for all their support over the years. Rathmichael has been like a family to me and after 32 years here it will be hard to say goodbye. I have no doubt that the school will continue to go from strength to strength. Thank you.
